Realistic biophilic sky luminaire serves multiple lighting functions

ATLANTA, January 20, 2026 – Nightingale®, (www.nightingalelighting.com), a patient-centered, design-forward lighting brand for healthcare environments, has unveiled its latest product. The Observe™ cloud luminaire has now been adapted to meet the unique requirements of MRI spaces. 

Observe was designed with patients and caregivers in mind, but is now also compatible with MRI suite requirements. The luminaire's advanced LED-level imagery creates a realistic, calming sky visual to help patients feel at ease during MRI procedures. At the same time, it provides caregivers with enough ambient light for observation. And when more light is required for post-scan activities such as cleanup, Observe transitions to a uniform white light that supports clarity.

Several key design features contribute to Observe’s compatibility with MRI spaces. The luminaire is made from non-ferrous materials to help prevent interference with imaging performance and minimize safety risks from magnetic attraction. The luminaire must be equipped with an EMI and RFI filter, which can be supplied by Nightingale, to ensure all electrical currents are properly conditioned before entering the MRI room shield. This is designed to help prevent unwanted electromagnetic or radio interference that could disrupt system performance or create imaging artifacts. Observe drivers are installed remotely, outside the MRI-shielded room; this minimizes the risk of magnetic and electrical interference and reduces heat generation near the scanner. Finally, the luminaire features DC power to support the MRI's need for a low electrical noise environment.

Observe is designed for the strict cleanliness standards of MRI environments. The luminaire is NSF2 listed, featuring smooth, non-porous surfaces and a construction that minimizes areas where dirt or debris can accumulate.


The luminaire is available in 2x2-foot and 2x4-foot options, with a modular design that supports larger sky layouts with cohesive, aligned cloud formations.
