Embrace and Observe luminaires both recognized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design

ATLANTA, January 19, 2026 – Nightingale®, (www.nightingalelighting.com), an innovative, patient-centric lighting manufacturer for healthcare applications, is pleased to announce its Embrace™ and Observe™ luminaires have each won a GOOD DESIGN® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. 

GOOD DESIGN was founded by Eero Saarinen, Charles Eames, and Ray Eames in 1950 and remains the oldest and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide. The Chicago Athenaeum presents the GOOD DESIGN Awards Program, emphasizing design and manufacturing that have chartered new directions for innovation and pushed the envelope for competitive products in the world marketplace. The 75th edition of the competition featured over 1,100 product designs and graphics from over 55 countries. Embrace and Observe were both recognized in the Lighting category.

Embrace pushes light outside of direct patient view, reducing glare, and contributing to a calmer setting for the patient. The multifunction patient bed luminaire offers ambient, exam, and night observation modes, with an optional dedicated reading light. Applications include patient rooms, NICU, senior living, long-term care, and recovery rooms.

Observe uses an innovative optical treatment to create a realistic sky effect that does not impede the exam and ambient modes. The luminaire uses a unique combination of optics and color to create a fixture that is switchable between biophilic sky mode, soothing ambient mode, and exam mode. These modes meet the strict IES recommended light level requirements (RP-29). The luminaire helps patients control their own space by easily connecting to their pillow speaker control or to an intuitive wall switch.


All award-winning products are published in the GOOD DESIGN Yearbook for 2025-2026. Winners will also be celebrated in April at the 2025 GOOD DESIGN Show in Athens, Greece.
